Kamene Goro was not fired from Kiss FM but her former employer refused to renew her contract because they got tired of her habit of regular absenteeism with insubstantial excuses.
Kamene’s contract at Kiss FM expired in January 2023 and the top management saw no value in retaining her while she was being paid over Ksh500,000 a month.
The former Kiss FM presenter hosted her last show on January 27, 2023, after three years of working at the popular radio station.
Speaking to bloggers outside Kiss FM studios just after hosting her last show, Kamene stressed that she was not fired.
“No, I was not fired. My contract was up by the end of this month (January) and there was no need to move forward with it… No beef with anyone,” she said.
Kamene also rubbished reports that she has been reporting to work drunk.
“And, let’s be real, I never come to work intoxicated or under the influence of (alcohol), that’s impossible. You can’t run the desk while drunk.”
Speaking on regular absenteeism with insubstantial excuses, Kamene claimed that she had been sick a lot last year and had to stay away from work.
“Last year, I was sick and had to miss work, but you can’t plan sickness, it just happens,” Kamene said.
She however admitted that waking up early in the morning to host her show at Kiss FM was quite challenging to her.
“Early morning waking up and not being able to sleep enough coz sometimes you are just from gigs to the studio. It has been very tiring and it can give you mad fatigue but it has been worth it,” Kamene said.
Sources at Lion’s Place, the headquarters of Radio Africa, said that the bosses had grown tired of Kamene’s habit of regular absenteeism with insubstantial excuses
“Kamene made a regular habit of not showing up to work, and she could give all manner of excuses most of the time, saying she was sick, and later she would upload photos and videos on social media of someone in a totally different situation,” a source said.
“When the top management took notice, that caused friction between her and them. There was actually a disciplinary panel set up to look into her conduct, and colleagues she closely worked with said she would text them at 6 AM, an hour to the start of her show, saying she won’t make it to work and request someone to hold her brief,” the source added.
Kamene, who has been replaced by Sheila Kwamboka alias Kwambox, said she would now be waking up at 9:30 am after exiting Kiss FM.
“I want to wake up at 9:30 am and be like wow. Now I can just chart my journey the way I want,” she said.
