Jubilee party which controls the government has had an interesting repeat election. Although they won the election with 98% of the vote they still did not like the turnout of the citizenry in the vote.

You know going to vote for such a wonderful government, queuing for hours to put back a government that has provided such wonderful healthcare, has zero corruption and just the best leaders in the world. The people were so motivated to vote in the recent elections that less than 50% of registered voters voted. This has not gone unnoticed and the government has come out to say that they want to make voting mandatory. Like paying taxes. You know how much we love to pay those pesky taxes.
Even though under our constitution the right to vote is protected. As long as one is a citizen and is over the age of 18 years, it still is not mandatory, you have the choice to abstain or not. Things are so bad right now that one wonders whether the Spirit and Letter of the Constitution are actually been followed when some of these politicians speak.
Whatever your political persuasion this is a serious issue. I will live it at that.
Here are some reactions from more concerned Kenyans:
someone tell the educated fool @AbabuNamwamba voting cannot be a constitutional right the moment you make voting mandatory. #checkpoint

Same chaps want to make voting mandatory. But spending your taxes properly? Oh no, that's clearly too much to ask for. https://t.co/5flwYHZodL

Jubilee to amend constitution to make voting mandatory? Will they be able to arrest and jail 12 million Kenyans? #AMLiveNTV

Priorities for a new Jubilee administration: a) Settle Nurses' strike fairly? b) National reconciliation? c) Mandatory voting? #KenyaDecides
