Royal Media Services reporter Victor Kinuthia was on Monday September 9th trolled after he fumbled with words while reporting the arrest of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
Kinuthia was on the ground to cover Ndindi Nyoro’s arrest and was heavily bashed for struggling to express himself while speaking English.
The reporter usually works for Inooro TV – a vernacular television station under the Royal Media Services group which usually broadcasts in Kikuyu language.
Several celebrated journalists came to Victor Kinuthia’s defense after trolls made fun of him for struggling to report in English, which is not his forte.
Celebrated journalists shared their experience reporting for the first time;
Bernard Ndong: My first live was a hot mess πππMost people donβt realize that this gentleman works at Inooro TV (most of his professional on-screen reporting is done in Kikuyu), he was closest to the scene and had to give an update in a language he rarely uses in his professional capacity..it was hard for him, and as you said the situation behind him was fluid and it completely destabilized him..I empathize with him because heβs been ridiculed and trolled online..But he will learn and will silence his critics π
Nyamai Cynthia: Reporting Live is not easy! Butterflies, action all around you, your mouth goes dry, news director in your ears then you remember your Mother plus all your enemies are watching! π€£π€£π€£
Carol Radull: The first time live is HELL π³π³π³ Voice and everything else that can shake SHAKES! πππ But youβre right; if he sticks with it heβll be great one day
Chris Kirwa: Live Reporting is not easy Especially when itβs a Suprise or your first time.
My first time on radio β I pushed the fader π up to cue News and a froze β¦ all the English I knew vanished ππ That was in KBC English Service many years ago β I ended being among the top presenters. This guy will be number one reporter one day π₯π₯
Catherine Kamau: He really tried, if you have been a journalist you know impromptu reporting is no mean fete . π©
