McDonald Mariga’s defeat in Kibra by-election is a bitter pill for his political godfather William Ruto to swallow. The retired footballer conceded defeat while the votes were still being tallied.
The past few days, since Thursday November 7th when Kibra residents cast their votes to chose their next MP, have been tough for Ruto as he tries to come to terms with the humiliating defeat.
The DP has taken to Twitter to rant and curse his rivals in ODM whom he accuses of using violence to intimidate voters in Kibra.
ODM’s Bernard Okoth won with 24,636 votes while the Ruto’s protégé McDonald Mariga came a distant second with 11,280 votes. To save face, Ruto took to Twitter to congratulate Okoth while arguing that he is slowly gaining ground in Raila Odinga’s Kibra stronghold.
Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) have been poking fun at Ruto and Mariga following their defeat in Kibra by-election. Mariga’s ‘TV sweetheart’ Joey Muthengi has since come out to console him.
For starters, Muthengi and Mariga sparked dating rumors after they starred as wife and husband in a TV commercial for popular betting company Betin.
Taking to social media on Sunday November 10th, Muthengi patted Mariga on the back saying that she was proud of him because he performed considerably well in Kibra by-election.
“You did well bruv…proud of you,” wrote Joey Muthengi.
In another post, Muthengi shared a photo she posed with Mariga and captioned it “You look good together…I like your friendship.”
