The country’s 2027 race is heating up — and this time, it’s celebrities leading the charge. Comedienne Jemutai and musician KRG The Don have officially thrown their hats into the political ring, igniting a frenzy online as fans debate whether showbiz stars can transform into serious national leaders.
Jemutai, whose real name is Stella Bunei Koitie, stunned her followers on Wednesday, December 3, when she announced she would contest the Elgeyo Marakwet Women Representative seat under the UDA banner.
The comedian, famous for her razor-sharp wit and satire on everyday Kenyan life, unveiled her campaign poster on Instagram — complete with the bold slogan: “I understand women better.”
If elected, she would unseat incumbent Caroline Jeptoo Ngelechei, who has held the seat since the last election.
Jemutai’s leap from comedy stages to political rallies has sparked a wave of excitement, memes… and plenty of sceptics. But supporters say her grassroots appeal and authenticity could make her a formidable challenger.
KRG The Don joins the 2027 battle
Just days earlier, flamboyant musician and businessman KRG The Don, real name Karagu Kimani, reaffirmed his bid for Nairobi Senator in the upcoming polls.
On November 24, 2025, KRG took to Instagram with a rallying call urging Nairobians to register as voters, positioning himself as the candidate who truly understands the capital’s daily struggles.
“Your vote is what will change everything in 2027. Wakazi wa Nairobi, mbele yenu ni kijana wenu,” he told his followers, insisting that Nairobi needs leaders who actually live the city’s problems.
In another message, he doubled down on his plea: “Shida za watu wa Nairobi haziwezi tatuliwa na watu ambao hawakai huku… Tuchange Nairobi yetu.”
With both entertainers choosing UDA as their political home, their announcements have added star power — and controversy — to the ruling party’s nomination season.
Still, if the reaction online is anything to go by, the 2027 polls are shaping up to be the country’s most dramatic yet — with the worlds of entertainment and politics colliding in spectacular fashion.
