Milele FM presenter Jalang’o overlooked Luo traditions and went on to built his mother a house in their rural home in Homa Bay County.
The sheer disregard for Luo traditions and customs prompted fears that the comedian would die because what he did is regarded as taboo in Luo community.
According to Luo customs, Jalango’s mother needed a ‘husband figure’ to build a house for her following the death of her husband. Children building a house for their mothers is forbidden, it’s believed that bad omen could befall those who disregard this Luo practice.
Jalang’o recently sneered at the Luo practice that forbids him from building his mother a house. Speaking during an interview with Word Is, the comedian sarcastically said he was waiting to die for disregarding Luo traditions and customs.
The comedian further stressed that he has no time for Luo elders who pester him for turning a blind eye to the community’s customs and traditions.
“I don’t have time for them [Luo elders]. I only listen to elders who instill wisdom in me, not people who come to talk to me about traditions that do not even make sense,” said Jalang’o.
