Charles Njagua Kanyi aka Jaguar compared his career as a musician and as a politician while evaluating in which profession he made most money.

Jaguar shot to fame as a musician, he dominated the airwaves with hits like ‘Kigeugeu’, ‘Kioo’, ‘Kipepeo’, ‘Huu Mwaka’ among other songs.

It was from his music career that Jaguar made his first million.

Jaguar joined politics in the run-up to 2018 General Election and was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Starehe constituency in Nairobi.

However, Jaguar lost his bid for re-election in the 2022 General Election.

Taking stock of his music and political career, Jaguar concluded that he made more money in the former profession.

Jaguar’s comments were prompted by statements made by Khaligraph Jones’ brother who expressed doubts about the financial prospects in the music industry.

In response, Jaguar shared his perspective, emphasising the economic opportunities within the music world.

“Niliona msanii brother ya Khaligraph akisema ati music haina pesa. Mi nataka nikuambie, hakuna industry iko na pesa kama arts. We ukiwa serious ukifanya song utapata pesa,” Jaguar said.

“Mimi ni product ya muziki. Ata nikiwa MP, and I have said this before, ile pesa nilitengeneza nikiwa msanii hata sikupata nikiwa mbunge.  Industry ikiwa na pesa iko na pesa ukijua ni biashara na kile kitu unafanya,” he added.

Jaguar stressed that musicians must recognise that music is a business, and success is attainable with the right approach and mindset.

He urged artistes to shift their mentality and understand that signing with a label is not a guarantee of success.

“Ukisiniwa wewe fanya vitu zako na upush kwa sababu hata ukisiniwa na hufanyi bidii itakua kazi bure,” Jaguar advised
