Celebrated musician Ian Oure, popularly known as Iyanii, has received the nation’s highest honour, the Head of State Commendation (HSC), directly from President William Ruto in recognition of his phenomenal contribution to the country’s vibrant creative industry.
The prestigious award was conferred upon the star on Friday, December 12, 2025, during a ceremony held at State House, Nairobi, cementing Iyanii’s status as a symbol of modern Kenyan music.
The recognition comes on the back of his runaway success, particularly his smash hit, “Donjo Maber,” which has dominated charts and airwaves across East Africa.
In announcing the commendation, State House highlighted the singer’s inspiring journey, framing it as a testament to hard work and creative evolution.
“Iyanii music is a testament of perseverance and creative evolution. Rising from school choirs to national fame, he honed his craft at Sauti Academy before breaking into the limelight with Bamba Pia in 2018,” the official conferment read.
The presidential statement specifically praised the unprecedented success of his recent work.
“His runaway hit Donjo Maber has propelled him into East Africa’s top charts, surpassing 18 million views and being named the 2025 song of the year through collaboration with leading artists,” State House declared.
Iyanii, known for his infectious energy and catchy tracks, has become more than just an entertainer; he is now officially recognized as a “beacon for young creatives.”
The award marks a pivotal moment for the music industry, confirming the government’s commitment to acknowledging cultural figures who achieve massive success and global reach.
