Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially issued a statement yesterday on the 25th April 2017. declaring that the candidates who are running for a seat independently have to at least be without an official party for three months before the August 8 general elections.
Registrar of Political Parties just cleared Funyula member of Parliament, Paul Otuoma to vie for the Busia governorship seat as an independent candidate. So it is safe to say that honorable Otuoma is very lucky to have the independent certificate to contest for the gubernatoral seat.
This means that any other aspirant has to indefinitely cut ties with any political party before the 3 months window passes because after that, there won’t be any extension on the same.
“Anyone who intends to vie as an Independent Candidate must not be a member of a Political Party at least 3 months to the polls.” IEBC tweeted
