Jua Cali vividly recalled how he was stranded in Busia in the early 2000s after he was conned by a promoter.
The veteran rapper was in the early stages of his music career when he was booked to perform in Busia by a local promoter.
Jua Cali said he travelled to Busia by bus as he was too broke to afford a flight to Kisumu then connect to the border town via road.
Once in Busia, the rapper hit the stage as the promoter promised to pay him after collecting gate charges from revelers.
However, the promoter went missing after Jua Cali performed. The rapper didn’t even have fare to travel back to Nairobi.
The club owner facilitated Jua Cali’s travel back to the capital and the ordeal in Busia inspired him to compose the song ‘Si Siri’.
