Wilson Nashon Kanani, a worker at Nairobi County and a director at the well-known 1824 bar, has been ordered by the High Court to have his accounts and assets frozen.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is looking into allegations that Mr. Kanani received bribes and kickbacks through his office, which allowed him to amass enormous riches.
Court documents state that between January 2016 and October 2022, Mr. Kanani, who makes a net monthly salary of Ksh 55,000, received and channeled at least Ksh 506 Million through bank accounts held in his name, businesses connected to him, his family members, including his spouse and minor children, and other family members.
The High Court in Nairobi’s anti-corruption division blocked 11 bank accounts belonging to Mr. Kanani and his family after receiving a request from the EACC.
According to information provided to the court, Mr. Kanani is connected to five businesses that are logically suspected of doing business with the Nairobi City County Government: Wilman Auto Invests, Wilman Auto Invests (Logistics), Willy Walla International Limited, Wilcoreg Limited, and Regineez Enterprises Limited.
Additionally, his young children have at least KSH 3 million in their bank accounts.
The court further prohibited Mr. Kanani and his family from selling the two Mercedes Benz vehicles that were registered in their names.
Mr. Kanani is a director of 1824 Bar, a company whose estimated monthly revenue is at least KSH 5M, as revealed by the court, and whose job at City Hall is to pursue outdoor advertising companies to ensure that their billboards and other signage do not break local and national rules.
One of his businesses, Wilcoreg Limited, has been set up to be a part of the pool of big suppliers in the counties of Nairobi and Siaya.
Detectives discovered that at one point, his personal account at I&M bank received KSH 181 million while one of his companies received a deposit of KSH 278 million.
In accordance with court documents, Mr. Kanani has only disclosed his Ksh 55,000 salary as his only source of income to City Hall.
