Willis Raburu was the highest-paid artiste who performed at the failed Gengetone Festival that was held a week ago in Machakos.
Raburu was the event’s emcee and also performed as an upcoming artiste. Other musicians who performed at the failed event include Zzero Sufuri and Ochungulo Family.
Gengetone Festival promoter Joe Mutetei disclosed how much each artiste was paid while revealing he was planning to sue the artistes for breach of contract.
Willis Raburu’s woes far from over as Gengetone Festival promoter threatens to sue
The promoter revealed that Raburu was the highest-paid being the event’s emcee, he received a down payment of Ksh 65,000 with a similar amount to be paid after the concert.
Speaking during an interview with Nairobi News, the promoter stated that artistes were to receive a down payment with the balance due expected to be paid at the completion of the event.
However, on eve of the Gengetone Festival, Willis Raburu and other artistes ganged up and demanded the balance before getting up on stage.
The promoter disclosed that Zzero Sufuri received Ksh 40,000 upfront while Ochungulo Family received a deposit of Ksh 45,000, as per the contracts.
