Jackton Odhiambo and his associates “strangled and gouged out” Edwin Chiloba’s eyes. According to preliminary police reports, he died as a result of strangulation.
The main suspect, 24-year-old Nairobi-based photographer Jackton Odhiambo, is set to be arraigned as police seek 14 days to determine the motivation behind the disturbing murder.
Last night, investigators were looking into a disloyalty angle in the case, with Jackton accused of committing the crime out of jealousy. Jackton is alleged to have been involved in a love relationship with his close buddy Chiloba but “felt betrayed” after the relationship ended.
Jackton is believed to be the main person in the murder with the assistance from two additional acquaintances before concealing the deceased in a metal box and discarding the deteriorating body along the Kapsaret-Kipkenyo roadway.
The caretaker, where the two stayed on Kimumu estate, Alex Nyamweya, said Jackton contacted him on January 4 to discuss arrangements to vacate the apartment immediately.
“I received a call on Jan 4 from Chiloba’s mobile phone, but it was his friend Odhiambo on the line informing me that he was vacating the house,” says Mr Nyamweya.
Advocates for human rights and civil society organizations have condemned the heinous murder.
