Gospel singer Peter Omwaka aka Guardian Angel has opened up about his struggle in abject poverty before fame and money came.
The 35-year-old musician, who has been very private about his childhood, opened up about some of the hardships he faced growing up.
Guardian Angel revealed that his childhood basically consisted of him trying to learn how to survive on his own.
“The way I grew up, and a lot of the things I did is not like the normal life that children have when they are raised,” Guardian Angel said while speaking to Standard Entertainment & Lifestyle.
The singer talked about living on the streets, being locked up in a cell, and being sent to a correctional school during his childhood.
“Sometimes I had to live on the streets, sometimes I had to live in a cell for a month or two. Sometimes I had to go to a correctional school. Later I lived with my mother for about three to four years and then I came back to think about how to live as a man,” he said.
The singer revealed that his love for music started when he was very young and hinted that even as a child he was singing. He said that he used to participate in music festivals and play traditional songs and musical instruments, which helped him a lot in building his musical art.
The Guardian said however that he never expected to become a gospel singer and revealed that his first music was a love song.
“When I started singing, I was doing love songs. My first song, I don’t even remember anything. The Gospel now happened to me because when I grew up I came to a place where I knew God and decided to be born again. When I started singing I was already born again so I only had the choice to sing to God. That’s how I started singing gospel,” he said.
Esther Musila’s husband pointed out that it was a good gospel industry when he ventured into it and he got the support he needed.
He said it took him about five years to get his first big hit which opened many doors for him in the gospel music industry.
