French-Congolese singer and rapper Gims, whose real name is Gandhi Djuna, has achieved a major milestone in his career by becoming the most streamed African artist on YouTube.

With over 6 billion streams on the platform, Gims has surpassed other popular African musicians like Diamond Platnumz, Davido, Tekno, Flavour, Alikiba, Burna Boy and Wizkid.

Gims began his music career as a member of the French rap group Sexion d’Assaut in the early 2000s. He later launched his solo career in 2013 with the release of his debut album dubbed ‘Subliminal.’ Since then, he has released several successful albums, including ‘Mon coeur avait raison,’ ‘Ceinture Noire,’ and ‘Le Fléau,’ with his recent offering being ‘Les dernières volontés de Mozart’ or simply ‘LDVM’ released in 2022.

Gims’ music incorporates elements of hip-hop, pop, and African music, and he frequently sings in both French and Lingala, a Bantu language spoken in the Congo region.

He has collaborated with a number of other popular artists, including Stromae, Maluma, Rayvanny, Lil Wayne, and J Balvin.

At the time of the publishing of this piece, Gims currently has 6,186,572,032 views on YouTube and counting by the second with over 11M subscribers, he currently has 157 videos on his official YouTube channel.

Gims’ success on YouTube can be attributed to his massive fan base in France and other French-speaking countries, as well as his popularity in African countries like Congo, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast.

His most popular music videos on YouTube include “Sapés comme jamais,” “Bella,” and “J’me tire,” which have all garnered hundreds of millions of views.

In addition to his music career, Gims has also worked as a producer, songwriter, and actor. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful and influential French-language artists of his generation.

Gims’ achievement as the most streamed African artist on YouTube is a testament to his talent, hard work, and dedication to his craft. It also underscores the growing popularity of African music around the world, as more and more artists from the continent gain international recognition and success.

As Gims continues to release new music and expand his fan base, it will be exciting to see what other milestones he will achieve in the future.

I am a Pan-Afrikanist to the core and love to let the world know what they are missing in Africa. I might do that through music and some interesting posts from time to time so please bare with me.

I will always be real though, that's a guarantee.
