YouTubers Eve Mungai and Director Trevor have had an ugly breakup that played out bad in the media affecting their business.
The former couple, who had been romantically involved for nearly five years, parted ways both personally and professionally.
Trevor ejected Eve Mungai from her own YouTube channels and Facebook account.
He removed Eve Mungai’s name from their YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and Facebook page with 847,000 followers, effectively stripping her of her role in managing these platforms.
Even though Director Trevor has retained the YouTube channel and Facebook page, Eve Mungai was actually the face of the brand.
Her coverage of various topics, particularly in the entertainment sphere, has garnered widespread attention and earned her a dedicated following.
While Eve Mungai was the face, Director Trevor was the driving force behind her success serving as her director, producer, editor and photographer.
After the breakup, Trevor has rebranded their YouTube channels under the name “Kenya Online Media”.
With Mungai out of the picture, Trevor will struggle to keep the YouTube channel going. Rebranding a YouTube channel comes with its own disadvantages.
A rebranding or name change on a YouTube channel can cause the verification status to be removed, affecting the channel’s credibility and visibility.
Viewership may also decline if consistent content creation is not maintained, potentially leading to a loss of audience engagement.
Subscribers may unsubscribe following the rebranding, particularly after the release of the first episode under the new name, such as “Kenya Online Media.”
