Ethic’s continued violation of YouTube’s community guidelines has now put them at risk of losing their YouTube channel for good.
So far the hip hop group has been caught up in copyright infringement and promoting rape culture, offenses which have put Ethic at odds with YouTube.
In August this year, Ethic’s hit song ‘Figa’ which featured Kamene Goro as the main video vixen was pulled down from YouTube for copyright violations.
The breakup group suffered a similar fate in October when they released a new song dubbed ‘Thao’ featuring Boondocks Gang which was also pulled down for copyright infringement.
On November 1st 2019, Ethic sparked a furore after they dropped a controversial song ‘Tarimbo’. The video contains scenes of semi-nude women twerking and dancing in explicit styles. The song’s verse also irked many people as it promotes rape culture.
Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua wrote to Google asking them to take down the controversial song from Youtube.
Google ultimately pulled down Ethic’s ‘Tarimbo’ song from YouTube, by the time of its deletion the song had already attracted over 600,000 views in less than a week since it was released.
“Tarimbo is now totally deleted from YouTube and the channel owners served first warning. After a third violation the channel will be totally deactivated,” wrote Ezekiel Mutua after Ethic’s ‘Tarimbo’ song was pulled down.
So far Ethic have two strikes for copyright infringement, the hip hop group will lose their channel for good if there will be a third complaint against them over copyright infringement.
