Eric Omondi has turned up the heat on president William Ruto and his government after fuel prices hit record highs in Kenya.
The comedian accused the government of working hard to make life unbearable for Kenyans.
Eric called on Ruto and other top government officials to take a pay cut as he gave free fuel to boda boda operators in Lang’ata constituency.
“The Kenya Kwanza government is hellbent on suffocating and choking Mwananchi. I am calling upon the president, Deputy President, Prime cabinet secretary, all MPS, all MCAs to take a 5 month. Kila mtu anaumia, take a pay cut and subsidize fuel with the same,” Eric shared on Instagram on Sunday night.
This comes just days after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced new fuel prices for the month of September- October.
Uproar greeted the hike in fuel prices announced Thursday night with the Kenya Matatu Owners Association saying bus fares will rise immediately.
The new prices crossed the Ksh200 mark for the first time ever hitting a high of Sh211.64 per litre of petrol in Nairobi after a Ksh16.96 increase.
EPRA said Diesel went up by Ksh21.32 while Kerosene increased by Ksh33.13 to retail at Ksh200.99 and Ksh202.61 per litre in Nairobi effective Thursday midnight.
The prices will remain in effect until October 14, 2023, with Trade CS Moses Kuria cautioning that the prices will rise by at least Ksh10 every month until February 2024.
“Global Crude Prices are on an upward trajectory. For planning purposes expect pump prices to go up by Ksh 10 every month till February,” Kuria posted on his X account.
