Eric Omondi has taken aim at Otile Brown for his recent statement claiming that no artist from the East African region has managed to break into the international music scene.
During an interview on the Obinna Show Live, Otile Brown asserted that East Africa lags behind globally in the music industry and emphasized that no artist has truly made it on the international stage.
Disagreeing with Otile’s assessment, Omondi pointed to Diamond Platnumz as a prime example of an East African artist who has successfully penetrated international markets.
“Only Diamond has achieved international recognition. Otile may have misspoken by claiming there are none, but Diamond Platnumz stands as a testament to our region’s global presence,” remarked Eric Omondi.
He commended Diamond for not only expanding his reach internationally but also for attracting foreign artists to East Africa.
“Diamond has not only gone global but has also brought global talent to our region. He stands alone in this regard,” emphasized Omondi.
Omondi went on to criticize Kenyan artists for their perceived lack of effective self-promotion, contrasting them unfavorably with their Tanzanian counterparts.
“Many Tanzanian artists excel in branding themselves, especially through visually striking music videos. It’s not just about the music; it’s about showbiz. Kenya needs to step up its game in self-presentation,” said Eric Omondi.
Drawing on his experiences collaborating with Tanzanian artists like Harmonize and Diamond, Omondi highlighted their distinct strengths.
“They are like father and son, with Diamond being the savvy businessman and Harmonize focusing more on musical prowess. Diamond’s extensive experience sets him apart,” Omondi explained.
Reflecting on his relationship with Tanzania, Omondi expressed his deep respect for Diamond, recalling their first encounter at Zari White Party concert, where Diamond introduced him to the Tanzanian audience.
