Eng Japheth Koome, is the fourth Inspector General of the National Police Service. He will take his oath of office this morning at the Supreme Court under the direction of Hon. Lady Justice Martha Koome, the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court.

Eng Koome will succeed Mr. Noor Gabow, the IGP in an acting capacity, as the 4th Inspector General of Police after being sworn in and assume control of the National Police Service. On September 27, 2022, His Excellency President William Ruto announced Mr. Hilary Mutyambai’s retirement due to health reasons.

After Joseph Kipchirchir Boinnet, a retired IGP and a former top intelligence officer, successfully completed his tenure and handed over office on April 4, 2019, Mr. Mutyambai, who had previously worked at the National Intelligence Service, assumed control.

Japheth Koome, an engineer, has been a police officer for 31 years since joining the then-Kenya Police Force in 1991 as a police constable. This came after earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi in 1990.
