Embarambamba has sparked public anger after releasing a controversial music video mourning the death of World marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum.
In the video, which is more than three minutes long, the controversial musician is seen sitting in dirty water while most of his body is covered in mud.
The singer can be heard singing a song purporting to mourn Kiptum’s death with controversial lyrics that have left many netizens wondering if he is okay.
At the beginning of the song, he is heard explaining how the late Kiptum died due to an accident and talking about how he was saddened by his death.
“I’m not happy with Kelvin, I’m crying (*5) .. Kelvini Kelvini, Kelvini is dead. The car hit a tree, Kelvini is dead. I am not happy, here from Kenya. What should Kenyans say? Where should Kenyans stay?,” Embarambamba sang.
He went on to sing about how the athlete had committed himself to breaking records on international platforms.
“Kenyans, let’s go, Kenyans, what should we say? Where should Kenyans stay?” he sang.
The singer claimed that Kiptum came to Kenya to greet his family when he was involved in a fatal accident that led to his death.
“Kelvin is dead! He was a runner, you Kelvini. Kelvini Kelvini, where did you leave your family? Kelvini Kelvini, where did you leave the lady? The bed you were sleeping in, where did you leave it?
Kelvin ugali you were eating, where did you leave it? The car going to poo, it hit Kelvini pu! The car had an accident, the car went raaa, it hit a tree and Kelvini died,” Embarambamba sang.
The singer seemed to act out everything he was talking about while singing.
The video has been received by Kenyans with mixed feelings, some seeming to criticize the singer, others calling his action stupid while others wonder if he is mentally sound.
