Drake was caught up in the ongoing war in Gaza which has split the world into pro-Israel and pro-Palestine (Gaza and West Bank) factions.
The Canadian rapper succumbed to pressure to betray his Jewish roots in support of Palestine.
Drake, born Aubrey Drake Graham, went to Hebrew school and had a Bar Mitzvah thanks to his Jewish-Canadian mother Sandi.
His father, Dennis Graham, is an African-American Catholic drummer from Memphis who once performed with country musician Jerry Lee Lewis. His mother, Sandra “Sandi” Graham (née Sher), is a Canadian Ashkenazi Jew, who worked as an English teacher and florist.
Drake signed a letter calling for Gaza ceasefire after criticism for not speaking up against the Israeli bombing of the tiny enclave which is home to 2.2 million Palestinians.
After weeks of mounting criticism over his silence on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, Drake made his stand known.
Drizzy was one of many musicians who signed an open letter calling for the US government, a major ally of Israel, to push for a cease-fire to at least temporarily end the conflict between the two sides.
“We urge your administration, Congress, and all world leaders, to honor all of the lives in the Holy Land and call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay. An end to the bombing of Gaza, and the safe release of hostages. Half of Gaza’s two million residents are children, and more than two-thirds are refugees and their descendants being forced to flee their homes. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach them,” the letter that Drake signed reads in part.

Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza has resulted in the death of over 8,000 Palestinians.
At least 40 per cent of those killed in Gaza were children. The killings of civilians has increased calls for a ceasefire.
