In a heart-wrenching yet defiant display of resilience, gospel legend DJ Krowbar has declared that 2026 will be his “best year yet”—just weeks after laying his beloved wife to rest.

The popular media personality, born Fredrick Karumba, took to social media on Monday, February 9, 2026, to share a glimpse into his “new normal” as he navigates life as a widower and a single father to the couple’s three children: Toria, Riri, and Imani.

Posting to his followers, Krowbar described the bittersweet routine of his morning, watching his children prepare for school before pivoting to the professional demands of his career.

“I am seeing my kids preparing for school, I have to make a few work calls today… We begin the new season,” he wrote. “BEST YEAR YET loading. This is going to be my best year yet.”

The moving declaration follows a grueling period of health struggles for his wife, Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, affectionately known as “Joy.”

Joyce passed away in the early hours of Monday, January 26, 2026, at the age of 41.

Her death came after a three-year battle with acute kidney injury, a journey the couple shared transparently with their fans.

In mid-2025, there was a glimmer of hope when Joyce’s younger sister, Mercy Wambui, stepped forward as a donor. The transplant provided Joyce with an additional seven months of life—a gift for which the family says they remain eternally “grateful.”

However, recurring infections and post-transplant complications eventually took their toll, leading to her untimely passing just days after she was readmitted to the hospital.

Krowbar’s insistence that 2026 will be a year of “fruitfulness” is not just personal optimism; it is a tribute to his wife’s final words.

During her emotional memorial service at Nairobi Chapel on February 4, Krowbar revealed he had found a video on his phone from an anniversary trip to Cape Town.

In the clip, a smiling Joyce—already battling illness—spoke into his life, telling him that despite their hardships, it was their “best year yet” because of the strength they found in each other.

The DJ, who is also a respected teacher and mentor in the music industry, was seen being comforted by his children at the graveside during the burial in Naromoru last Thursday.

While the “gospel fraternity”—including stars like DJ Mo—has rallied around the family, Krowbar says he is focused on “grieving well” and ensuring his children see a father who is “strong-willed” and anchored by faith.

“I honestly don’t know how, but I am sure it will be,” Krowbar told mourners of his 2026 goal. “So much fruit will come out of this pain.”
