DJ Fatxo, a popular Mugithi musician-cum-mix master, has been awarded the Mugithi Artist of the Year award by e360 awards, despite an ongoing investigation into the death of Jeff Mwathi.
The troubled musician had urged his fans to vote for him in February, and it seems that they did just that, as he emerged victorious in the category.
The award comes amidst a police investigation into the death of Jeff Mwathi, with authorities pushing to exhume his body for further analysis.
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that plans were underway to exhume Mwathi’s body, who died under mysterious circumstances last month.
Mwathi died on February 22, 2023, after allegedly falling from DJ Fatxo’s 10th-floor apartment in Kasarani.
Addressing members of the press in Nairobi on March 26, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome said plans were underway to seek orders from the courts to exhume the body of the 23-year-old interior designer.
“Detectives are looking at several dimensions including where they say he passed and dropped to the ground. We are moving to court to seek an order for the exhumation,” Koome stated.
The police boss affirmed that anyone found culpable in the death of Mwathi would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
“We are doing thorough investigations. There is a lot going on. Whoever is found culpable will face the law,” he added.
On the night he died, Mwathi had visited DJ Fatxo’s house to deliver some interior decor materials for his home and office.
A police statement recorded by the DJ revealed that the two had been together in four different clubs before returning to the singer’s apartment at around 3:00 am on February 22.
In a police statement, DJ Fatxo and two other witnesses claimed that Mwathi jumped from the 10th floor to the hard concrete ground.
