Diamond Platnumz’s big break in the music industry came in 2013, but it was a big gamble for the Bongo Flavor singer.

Diamond Platnumz was already a household name in East Africa by 2013, but he was not filthy rich. He undertook a music project that year that earned him million-dollar returns.

‘Number One’ is the music project that made Diamond become a dollar millionaire. The Bongo heartthrob invested heavily in the project and it paid off.

Diamond Platnumz revealed that he spent Ksh 3.3 million on the ‘Number One’ music project during a recent interview with Nairobi News.

“Before doing the first video version of Number One at Ogopa Djs in Nairobi, my video cost used to be about US$ 3,000 (Sh326, 000) per video.

With Number One, I went 10 times higher and spent US$30,000 (Sh3.3 million) or thereabout to fly Ogopa Djs video crew to Cape Town, South Africa, and shoot my video.

The outcome was amazing, and that gave me the green light to approach Davido for a remix,” said Diamond Platnumz.

Diamond approached Davido for the ‘Number One’ remix and he almost dried up his coffers while working on the project.

The Tanzanian musician disclosed that he secure bank loans to finance his ‘Number One’ remix project with Davido.

“I took loans from Tanzania banks to finance my video and collaboration with Davido in Lagos because I had to travel there with my crew,” said Diamond.

Diamond Platnumz’s gamble paid off handsomely, he became a household name in Africa and beyond after the collabo with Davido.
