Diamond Platnumz struggled to become a successful musician, people just think he recorded songs and they became big hits. But the reality is that the Tanzanian superstar failed a lot and even considered quitting music altogether.

Diamond was a rapper when he first debuted as a musician. However, he really struggled to break out as his rap songs didn’t hit.

“Wakati naanza kufanya muziki mimi nlikua narap. Lakini nkipiga hesabu yangu kwenye kurap nlikua naona kabisa kurap kunanikataa.

Nkasema wacha niende kwenye kuimba, mwenyezi Mungu akanifungulia. (The time I started music I was rapping. But I evaluated myself and I saw rapping was not working for me. I decided to be a singer and the almighty God opened doors for me,)” Diamond Platnumz said during an interview.

Diamond further shared his secret to success, he stressed that being consistent and working hard helped him to overcome the poverty that he was born into.

“Vijana wenzangu wasikae na ndoto zao tu mtaani, mimi wakati naanza kutafuta riziki nlikua nafanya kazi zote, nlikua nabeba mchanga, sijui nauza nguo yani natafuta fursa popote ilipo. Kwenye kutafuta riziki tusiweke ubig show yani tufanye kazi na tuweke bidii sana mwenyezi Mungu atatufungulia (My fellow youth you should not just sit with their dreams in the hood, for me the time I started making a livelihood I did all sorts of jobs. I used to carry sand, sell clothes… I was just looking for any opportunity. When you are looking for a way to earn a living don’t be picky. Let’s do our jobs and work hard and the almighty God will opens doors for us.)
