Diamond, Jason Derulo’s ‘Komasava’ remix tops charts in Kenya with staggering Ksh24M budget

The highly anticipated remix of “Komasava” by Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz, featuring American pop and RnB sensation Jason Derulo, is currently the number one trending song on YouTube in Kenya.

The lavish music video for the hit track has already amassed 2.8 million views within just two days of its release.

The extravagant production of the “Komasava” remix came with a hefty price tag of at least Ksh24 million.

Diamond’s longtime manager, SK Sallam, disclosed that the budget significantly exceeded Tsh500 million (Ksh24 million) when accounting for all expenses, including logistics, locations, production, accommodation, and other miscellaneous costs.

“The video was shot in different locations by three different video directors. There is a desert scene shot in Dubai, a scene shot in Paris, and the scene which features both Diamond and Jason was shot at a different location in Dubai as well,” Sallam explained.

The ambitious project involved extensive travel and coordination, with multiple scenes filmed across various countries.

Diamond Platnumz flew in South African Amapiano artists Chley Nkosi and Khalil Hilson, along with their team, to Dubai, covering their accommodation and other expenses. Chley and Khalil also feature prominently in the remix alongside Diamond and Derulo.

Despite the extensive planning, Sallam revealed that the tight schedule posed significant challenges.

“It wasn’t easy putting everything together because there wasn’t enough time to prepare well. We were given an ultimatum of two days to complete payments of the collaboration fees (by Derulo’s team), payment of the locations used, and payment of the permits to shoot at the locations. There were also the costs of putting up the set-up used in the different locations among other details. Honestly, if we are to factor in every expense, the budget is way higher,” he added.

Sallam, who owns Mjini FM—a rival station to Diamond’s Wasafi FM—highlighted the complexity and high costs associated with the Dubai shoots as a major hurdle in the production process.

The immense effort and resources invested in the “Komasava” remix have clearly paid off, with the video quickly climbing to the top of the charts and capturing the attention of millions. As fans continue to flock to YouTube to watch the star-studded collaboration, the song’s success underscores the powerful appeal of combining local talent with international stars.
