Dennis Oliech axed by Gor Mahia after he joins politics to vie for Kibra parliamentary seat

Gor Mahia has terminated Dennis Oliech’s contract after he expressed interest to contest for the Kibra parliamentary seat while fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth.

In a letter sent to Oliech, Gor Mahia explained that they had decided to terminate the legendary footballer’s contract because of his poor performance, failure to turn up for duty and engaging in active politics.

“You have offered yourself as a candidate for popular elections, a move that is likely to portray the club in (a) bad light, cause disaffection among the club’s supporters and fans, a step that is inconsistent with the inimical to your stand as the club’s football player. Further, you have posted a photograph of yourself in the social media donning the club’s jersey indicating your political intentions,” Gor Mahia said in a statement late on Tuesday August 27th 2019.

Oliech still had 16 months in his contract with Gor Mahia, and was reportedly entitled to Ksh 300,000 monthly salary alongside a Ksh 3 million signing bonus payable in installments before his contract lapses.

Gor Mahia’s termination of Oliech’s contract came after the footballer shared a campaign poster in a WhatsApp group consisting of his teammates.

The poster has a picture of Dennis Oliech donning Gor Mahia jersey and while Raila Odinga’s portrait appeared in the background.

The poster was also designed with ODM theme color [orange], the banner is captioned ‘Vote Dennis Oliech for Kibra MP 2019’.
