Gospel singer Owen Mwatia aka Daddy Owen has spoken in detail about his divorce from his ex-wife Farida Wambui which happened in 2020.

In an interview with Mwafrika on the Iko Nini podcast, the father of two revealed that he was married to Farida for about five years before it ended badly.

Daddy Owen noted that many stories emerged after the divorce, some of which he says were true while others were fake news.

“Ndoa yangu kuisha iliisha. Haikuisha vizuri. Kwa kweli, kuna stori nyingi zilitoka. Zingine kweli, zingine hazikuwa kweli lakini ndoa yangu iliisha. Ilichukua muda kujua nini cha kufanya baadae. Haikusha poa, kwa kweli mlisikia stori mob,” Daddy Owen said.

Although he did not speak openly about what broke up his marriage, the 41-year-old musician was tasked with responding to allegations that his ex-wife eloped with Nakuru tycoon Albert Njuguna.

While answering the question, Daddy Owen informed Mwafrika that he was not at liberty to discuss the allegations as they may lead to court issues.

“Kuna mambo mengine ni noma sana kuongea kwa sababu hii stori ilienda mpaka kortini. Siwezi taka ukuje userviwe hapa juu ya kitu huwezi kuelewa,” he said.

The gospel musician also talked about how his fans, media and bloggers pushed him to defame Farida’s name, something he was not ready to do.

“Mitandao iliongea mambo mengi. Tofauti ilikuwa, singeweka kutoka huko nje nianze kuweka mambo wazi na kusema hii ni kweli, hii ni uongo. Jambo moja nililogundua wakati huo, mtandao ulikuwa ukinisukuma sana. Wanablogu, watu wa vyombo vya habari na hata mashabiki walikuwa wakinisukuma kuchafua jina la mke wangu wa zamani,” he said.

However, he pointed out that despite the pressure, he was not ready to speak badly of the other parent for the sake of their children.

“Mimi sikudhani ni ya maana. Licha ya yaliyomo, siwezi enda mahali nianze kuweka jina lake, nitasaidika na nini. Siwezi. Sio mimi na ni kitu siwezi kufanya,” he said.

Daddy Owen and Miss Farida Wambui met in 2012, got married in 2016 before separating in 2020.
