Unhappy fans who were barred from viewing the remains of celebrated singer Ange Didier Huon alias DJ Arafat took matters into their own hands and decided to exhume the singer’s body just to take selfies.
For starters, DJ Arafat had a massive audience in French-speaking west and central African countries. The deceased boasted of 11 albums mainly of ‘coupe-decale’ – a dance music form combining rapid percussion, choppy rhythms with hip hop-style vocals.
DJ Arafat died aged 33 in a motorbike accident, the late singer was riding his motorbike when he smashed into a car suffering serious injuries. The deceased was a motorbike enthusiast and often pulled stunts on the road.
The Ivorian singer died while receiving treatment in hospital. According to media reports, DJ Arafat had a large fracture of the cranial vault and a brain embolism that plunged him into stage 3 coma with massive cerebral hemorrhage.
Moments after the singer’s death was announced, thousands of fans gathered weeping and chanting “Arafat cannot die” outside the hospital in Abidjan’s Cocody suburb where the singer died while receiving treatment.
A memorial service for DJ Arafat was held on 30th August before he was finally laid to rest on August 31st at a cemetery in Abidjan.
Unhappy fans on Sunday September 1st exhumed DJ Arafat’s body and broke open the coffin in order to take photos and videos with the deceased.
According to reports from Ivory Coast, fans were unhappy after being barred from viewing DJ Arafat’s remains during the burial ceremony.
Videos doing rounds on the internet show a group of about 50-100 people forcefully opening the casket and taking photos and videos of corpse before police arrived and fired teargas to disperse the group.
