Cosmas Kipngetich Korir loves to gamble and he wins most of the time like he won the Ksh208 million SportPesa mega jackpot in 2018 and also won Bomet County Speaker position on September 21, 2022.
Korir defeated veteran politicians in Bomet politics to win the county’s Speaker seat in a well-calculated strategy.
He garnered 32 votes in the second round of voting, beating former Kipsonoi MCA Cheruiyot Kirui, who received six votes.
Korir had 19 votes in the first round of voting while Kirui had 12, and the two were cleared for the second round.
Former deputy governor Stephen Mutai received four votes and former Speaker Nelson Mutai three, knocking him out of the second race.
Korir’s win came after two defeats in his bid to be an elected leader. He lost in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries in Konoin constituency to area MP Brighton Yegon.
He also contested the seat in the 2017 elections under Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) but lost to Yegon, who is now serving a second consecutive term.
After the two loses, Korir decided to go for Bomet Speaker position and he managed to convince most MCAs to elect him.
Korir’s biggest win however came in October 2018 when he made national headlines after winning Ksh208 million SportPesa mega jackpot.
He used to money to make make lifetime investments as well also to finance his political ambitions. Which eventually paid off as he won Bomet County Speaker position.
