Cord leaders are demanding the arrest of DP Ruto for leading a “persistent hate speech campaign against the opposition leaders”.
They demanded an explanation as to ‘why the Jubilee government was applying selective justice’ on the matter of inflammatory remarks.
“We want an explanation of what “kukaranga mtu” (to fry someone) means if it is not hate speech. We might be forced to “fry” him (DP) first before he does it to us,” Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama said.
The Opposition team was in Busia for area woman representative Florence Mutua’s thanksgiving prayers at Butula Polytechnic.
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed claimed that Ruto and interior CS Joseph Nkaissery masterminded their arrest and detention.
The legislator further laughed off claims by DP Ruto that those working with Raila are slaves.
“Ruto is the one using Eurobond money to buy people with a purpose of destabilising the opposition,” he said.
Raila Odinga, the coalition’s principal, cautioned the police against being used by the Jubilee government as a tool to fight the opposition leaders.
He said the group (Cord) was only defending the rights of common citizens, who are being exploited economically through grand corruption.
“The police should not be used like dogs to unleash terror on innocent people and leaders who are defending their rights,” he said.
Raila added that the police reforms were meant to transform the force into a service must be taken seriously.
The former prime minister asked the police to emulate their counterparts in Tanzania and United Kingdom, who are friendly to wananchi unlike the case of Kenya.
Raila regretted that the cost of living has skyrocketed due to rampant corruption propagated by the ruling coalition at the expense of tax payers.
For his part, Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire claimed that Ruto is hiding in the bible and yet his religion is not known.
“Ruto escaped ICC by a miracle of God but this time we shall escort him there [to the Hague],” he said.
Muthama said that Raila should be given the opportunity to lead the country so that he can change the constitution in favour of a rotational presidency.
He said this was the only way out of the current situation where it was likely that a community can ruled for many years.
The senator said that if Raila takes over the presidency in 2014, the country shall know those behind mysterious killings of outspoken politicians since independence.
Raila also took a swipe at the national government for “blocking the success of devolution”.
He regretted that only Sh675billion has been devolved to the county governments, a figure he said was a mere drop in the ocean yet the national government has retained Sh5 trillion since 2013.
Raila said the Jubilee administration has failed to fulfill its pre-election pledges among them the lap top projects, building state of art stadium in five counties as well as building 10,000km of tarmac roads across the country.
The Cord leader called for concerted efforts to unseat the Jubilee from power in next year’s polls.
Raila, who said IEBC commissioners must leave office, said the current electoral commission was wearing the Jubilee uniform with 12 players compared to Cord’s 11.
Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong said taxpayers money being used to buy politicians is cursed , adding that recipients of such cash end up becoming paupers.
Kilifi women rep Aisha Jumwa wondered when a Luhya or other 40 tribes will be president.
