Tanzanian comedian Idris Sultan found himself on the wrong side of the law after his gaffe was interrupted as a mockery of President John Pombe Magufuli .
Two weeks ago, Idris took to social media and shared photoshopped images of Magufuli and him. In the photos, Idris swapped heads with the Tanzanian President.
“Kwa siku moja tukabadilishana kazi ili a-enjoy birthday yake kwa amani 😂🙌🏽,” Idris captioned the photos.
Dar es Salaam Regional Commisoner Paul Makonda ordered Idris to report to the nearest police station for questioning over allegations of disrespecting the president after his photoshopped images went viral.
The comedian has since reported thrice to the Dar es Salaam police station and he is expected back on Monday November 18th.
Sensing the gravity of his gaffe, Idris decided to apologize to President Magufuli. The comedian stressed that his photos were taken out of context by people who missed the joke.
“My intentions were all good. Unfortunately, they were misinterpreted. Because of that, I thought it is wise to apologise to the President himself if the photos irked him,” said Idris.
