Legendary news anchor Catherine Kasavuli is dead.

She was the first female news anchor in Kenya.

Catherine Kasavuli worked for KTN, Citizen TV, and Kenyan Broadcasting Corporation(KBC) in her career as a journalist.

In 1980, Kasavuli began her career as a radio continuity announcer at the Voice of Kenya, later renamed KBC.

After hearing her read the Bible and pray at supper, her uncle advised her to apply for a job as a presenter.

After working for two years without professional training, Kasavuli enrolled at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication. Catherine joined the founding group that started KTN, Kenya’s first privately owned television station, in March 1990.

Kasavuli worked with KTN for 17 years before leaving in 2007 to join Royal Media Services-owned Citizen TV.

She was a part of the massive departure that saw several prominent news anchors, including Swaleh Mdoe and Louis Otieno, leave the TV station owned by the Standard Group for Citizen TV.

Kasavuli made a triumphant comeback and hit Kenyan TV screens at the end of July 2021, eight years after she left the spotlight to concentrate on corporate affairs, after securing an agreement with Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

She was one of the veterans engaged by KBC to rebuild the media company and appeal to the masses in the new world of media.

After a battle with cancer, she passed away at age 60 on Thursday night at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Her employer, KBC confirmed the death.

Condolences to family and friends.

Rest in peace legend.
