After a year of painful silence and separation, content creator Carol Sonnie has finally explained the monumental shift in perspective that led her to reconcile with her former partner, comedian David ‘Mulamwah’ Oyando—and she credits a deep spiritual journey for the change.
The former couple, whose public breakup played out dramatically on social media, sat down for an emotional interview on the Carol Sonnie Show on Monday, December 15, 2025, where Mulamwah confronted her about the lengthy “test” she had put him through.
Mulamwah questioned what ultimately convinced her to break the silence and agree to meet.
“Kitu ilikushika wapi ndio uka-agree tumeet?” he asked.

Sonnie’s response was simple and profound: “Niliokoka [I got saved],” she stated, implying that her newfound faith had softened her stance and allowed her to move past their bitter history.
Mulamwah, however, claimed he had beaten her to the spiritual race, insisting: “Mimi nilimpata Kristo kitambo [I found Christ a long time ago].”
Sonnie appeared unconvinced by his transformation, jokingly questioning the timing and depth of his claim: “Kumpata sijui ulimpata wapi juu bado [Finding him, I don’t know where you found him because still…],” she remarked, casting doubt on his consistency.

The comedian went on to reveal the gruelling extent of her scepticism, describing the stringent trial period he endured before she would even agree to an interview.
“Nilimpata Yesu na nikakwambia. Na ukaniambia, ‘let me test you.’ Ukanitext mwaka mzima,” Mulamwah told her.
“Si umeona David Oyando hana maneno na uka-agree to this. Zile test nilipitia ndio niongeleshwe hapa ni mingi sana.”
He essentially claimed he had to pass a 12-month test of good behaviour and silence before she would acknowledge him.

While the couple traded jabs about their respective spiritual awakenings, Sonnie clarified that her final decision to end the freeze-out was primarily driven by the welfare of their daughter, Keillah, rather than their personal romantic past.
“For me to come to an agreement to allow you to see your child, honestly speaking, Keillah is not part of our differences. I’d rather put those differences aside. Yes, I know it took time for me to understand that,” she explained.
Mulamwah used the moment to offer a critique of the public gaze that has often complicated their lives, arguing that many relationships are unnecessarily destroyed by online opinion.

“The problem is that people focus so much on what others will say. Madem wengi siku hizi wako controlled na vile comments zitasema mtu ako,” he said.
“Mtu anaweza kukuambia uachane na huyu and you end up kuachana naye, si kwa sababu ya ukweli, but because of comments and how they want you to live.”
Mulamwah and Carol Sonnie officially and publicly broke up in December 2021. However, the actual separation occurred months earlier, while Carol was still pregnant.

The comedian later revealed that they actually split when Carol was three to four months pregnant.
On December 6, 2021, Carol Sonnie posted on social media confirming they were no longer together after a four-year relationship.
The separation was highly controversial, with both parties providing different accounts.
Mulamwah claimed the split was due to Carol wanting a “posher lifestyle” that he was unwilling or unable to fund at the time.

Mulamwah later alleged that infidelity played a role in their fallout.
Carol admitted she played a part in the separation but often stated the reasons were “best known to us” and expressed that she was “dumped” by the comedian.
After years of public hostility and disputes over their daughter Keilah, the two made headlines on December 14, 2025, by reuniting for a family outing.
They clarified that they have moved toward a peaceful co-parenting arrangement for the sake of their child’s well-being.
