The Judicial Service Commission has this Thursday nominated appellate court judge David Maraga Kaneni as the most suitable candidate to replace retired former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
Maraga beat other 13 candidates including the US based law lecturer Makau Mutua. The JSC will now forward the name to the president for official appointment.
Maraga hails from Nyamira county. He is 65 years of age.
He had been tipped to be the next chief justice.
