International advocacy organization Global Citizen recently celebrated the graduation ceremony of its highly anticipated fourth and final Global Citizen Fellowship Program, powered by BeyGOOD.
The event showcased the remarkable achievements of fellows hailing from South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya.
This transformative initiative, supported by Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD philanthropic initiative and acclaimed US actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry, aims to equip and empower young Africans with the essential skills and tools they need to thrive in their future professional endeavors.
Launched in 2019, subsequent to the resounding success of commitments made at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 in December 2018, the Global Citizen Fellowship Program aligns with the organization’s ambitious vision of eradicating extreme poverty by 2030.
By providing opportunities for hands-on experience in social impact projects, the program grants young individuals invaluable practical knowledge and exposure.
Over the course of a year-long, full-time, paid fellowship based in Lagos, Nairobi, and Johannesburg, these aspiring changemakers immersed themselves in Global Citizen’s four key areas of activity: creative, campaigns, rewards, and marketing. By focusing on these pillars, fellows actively contribute to Global Citizen’s overarching Recovery Plan For The World, which addresses urgent global challenges.
Throughout the program, the fellows underwent an extensive curriculum divided into four progressive phases. This learner-centered approach ensured their acquisition of a diverse range of practical, invaluable skills.
They gained expertise in problem-solving, critical thinking, community building, and both professional and personal development.
Additionally, fellows delved into the realms of advocacy, international development, and global citizenship, fostering a comprehensive understanding of these vital disciplines.
One of the primary objectives of the program was to harness the power of digital technology for social change. Fellows honed their abilities in leveraging digital platforms and techniques to drive meaningful impact. Furthermore, they explored the art of storytelling as a potent tool for shifting attitudes and perceptions.
The program also emphasized the significance of building enduring professional relationships, acknowledging their pivotal role in effecting lasting change.
A fundamental aspect of the Global Citizen Fellowship Program was its commitment to nurturing an in-depth comprehension of innovation’s role in an ever-evolving digital world. By embracing innovative approaches, fellows developed the capacity to address complex challenges and adapt to the rapid pace of technological advancements.
On June 15th, the talented fellows from South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya proudly took the stage, marking the culmination of their transformative journey in the program.
The graduation ceremony was graced by the presence of notable figures, including Ivy McGregor, Director of Social Responsibility at Parkwood Entertainment, the headquarters for BeyGOOD, and Didi Morake, Project Manager for Global Citizen and the Fellows.
The Global Citizen Fellowship Program has proven to be a remarkable catalyst for nurturing the next generation of African leaders committed to social change.
By equipping these young individuals with essential skills, knowledge, and networks, Global Citizen and BeyGOOD are empowering them to drive positive transformations not only within Global Citizen but also across any future professional landscape.
These talented fellows are poised to play a pivotal role in the ongoing pursuit of a world free from extreme poverty, realizing Global Citizen’s bold vision by 2030.
