Babu Owino Is Sworn In As SONU Chairman Amid Protests In The Streets And On Social Media (Photos)

Controversial University Of Nairobi’s students’ leader, Babu Owino, has once again been sworn in as SONU chairman.

Babu Owino has been at University of Nairobi since 2008 when he joined an Actuarial Science student. He was first elected as SONU chairman in 2011 and has since retained the position to date.

Babu even enrolled for a second degree in law in 2012 after he graduated, just to remain in University and retain his post.

Critics have been pressuring Babu to quit campus politics saying he has been in the University for way too long.

Babu’s 6th re-election bid was marred by violence from the campaign period to the time he was declared winner.

UoN students were protesting along Nyerere Road the moment Babu was announced the winner. There were also protests on social media with the hash tag ‘Babu Owino’ trending on Twitter.
