Aslay Isihaka Nassoro has responded to his former manager Mkubwa Fella who claimed that his music career failed to take off because of alcoholism and women.
Mkubwa Fella, who managed Yamoto Band that Aslay was part of, said the singer became a womanizer and got addicted to alcohol when he was still young.
Aslay, who is now 27 years old, released his first song ‘Nitakusema’ at the age of 12 and expressed success while he was still a member of Yamoto Band, only to fall back to grass after the group was disbanded.
In an interview with East Africa Radio recently, Aslay addressed the claims by Fella while also shedding light on his path to freedom after the breakup of the Yamoto Band music group.
Despite acknowledging the help he received from Fella as a guardian in the industry, Aslay expressed his disagreement with being seen as a child who needs guidance.
“Unajua Mkubwa anaamini bado mimi ni mtoto, hajui kama huyu sasa hivi keshakua na sasa hivi ana watoto,” he said.
Regarding the alleged alcoholism, Aslay admitted to enjoying drinks but insisted that he is not the worst drunkard in the Tanzanian music scene.
He referred to Mkubwa Fella’s concern as his father’s instinct, pointing out that it is the result of a caring relationship between them.
Aslay explained that although Fella’s statements may have some truth, they should not be misrepresented by labeling him as a heavy drinker.
Speaking about the claim that he was the reason for Yamoto Band to break up due to him seeking an independent life, Aslay set the record straight.
He revealed that all the group members, Enock Bella, Mbosso, Beka Flavor and himself, were already thinking of going independent.
“Sijawa chanzo chochote cha Yamoto kuvunjika, kipindi kina Rayvanny kinaanza kutoka kila mtu macho yake yalikua yashaanza kuona mbele,” Aslay explained, indicating that the decision to explore individual musical journeys was a collective one and was not guided by him alone.
Aslay noted that by the time the group started international tours, each member had already achieved success from their hits alone.
