Afrobeats sensation Asake has issued a raw and emotional statement following a fatal stampede at his Nairobi concert that has left the Kenyan entertainment scene in shock and mourning.

The singer confirmed the passing of Karen Lojore, a young fan who lost her life during a terrifying crowd crush at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday night, December 20, 2025.

In a statement released on Monday, Asake admitted the news has left him “shaken and heartbroken.”

“I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place at the festival on Dec 20th in Nairobi. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore,” the singer shared.

The tragedy has been made even more poignant by the public grief of Karen’s mother, who took to social media to demand answers.

“Karen, why? What happened? You had that ticket. Who is going to answer my questions? I want justice for my child,” she wrote in a heart-wrenching Instagram post.

Witnesses at the stadium described a “nightmare” scenario. As a heavy downpour soaked the capital, thousands of fans—many with valid tickets—were reportedly funneled through a single, narrow gate.

The resulting bottleneck led to a violent surge as fans tried to seek cover or gain entry, causing a stampede that left Lojore fatally injured.

“It was a masterclass in music but a lesson in logistics,” one attendee noted, praising Asake’s performance but slamming the “horrendous” crowd control.

Asake, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade, has refused to let the incident be swept under the rug.

In a move that puts direct pressure on the event organisers, Tukutane Entertainment, the singer called for a full investigation.

“I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. Those involved should not avoid responsibility for the incident. Music has always been about sharing love and joy… it breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss,” he said.

This is tragically the second time a fatal crush has occurred at an Asake headline show. In December 2022, a stampede at the O2 Academy Brixton in London claimed the lives of two people under similar circumstances.

As authorities begin a formal inquiry into the Nyayo Stadium security protocols, the “Mr. Money” singer has vowed to stand with the Lojore family.

He concluded his message with a simple prayer: “I pray that Karen rests in peace. God Bless Kenya.”
