American Rapper Trinidad James Is raising $147,000 to Disburse to the families of the 147 students who were killed in the Terrorist Garissa Attack on 2nd April 2015
Trinidad and Tobago born American artiste, Trinidad James is almost synonymous to the term ‘Don’t Believe me Just Watch’ which is a line from his hit track ‘All Gold Everything’ which was released two years ago. At around that time, he blew up so big that everybody in the hip hop industry and keen music enthusiasts knew who Trinidad James was, he came with a new style that nobody could ignore and everybody wanted a piece of it.
Fast forward to May 11 2015(38 days after the attack), Trinidad James showed a side that not everybody in the rap industry would admit they have due to their gangsta image but Trinidad James didn’t care about that and opted to say and do something about the 147 students who were slain by terrorist militia group, Al Shabaab in Garissa on the 2nd of April 2015. The gunmen took over 700 students hostage, freeing Muslims and killing those who identified as Christians. The siege ended the same day, when all four of the attackers were killed. Five men were later arrested in connection with the attack, and a bounty was placed for the arrest of a suspected organizer.
Statistics proves that this was the deadliest attack in Kenya since the 1998 United States embassy bombings and is the second deadliest overall with more casualties than the 2002 Mombasa attacks, the 2013 Westgate shopping mall attack, the 2014 Nairobi bus bombings, the 2014 Gikomba bombings, the 2014 Mpeketoni attacks and the 2014 Lamu attacks.
The Los Angeles based rapper went on to say that he is spear heading a fund raiser campaign to help raise $147,000 to be disbursed to the families of the victims and he will do a free concert in Kenya with all the proceeds from the concert to be added on top of the $147,000 that is to be given to the victims’ families.
This was/is Trinidad James touching statement about the Garissa University College attack
My name is Trinidad James. I’m an artist from Atlanta,GA. I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and I currently live in Los Angeles, California. I want to bring awareness to a subject and issue that happened in the world this year. The issue happened in Kenya at Garissa University College. A terrorist group came in and killed 147 students. Amongst the 147, a policemen, solidier and two watchmen were also killed. The number of casualties makes it one of the deadliest terror attacks in the country’s recent history. So many things happen in Africa and I personally believe it gets swept under the rug. Today, I would like to take the time to ask the world to CARE and BE AWARE. The 147 people killed were fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, and grandparents who didn’t deserve what happened to them. I’m coming to you today because I want to raise 147,000 (US Dollars) to give back to the families of the victims who died that sad day in Kenya. In addition, I will be doing a free concert in Kenya to raise more money on top of the 147,000 (US Dollars) that we raise to disburse to the families in Africa while I’m there. I would also like to be able to present a check to Kenya at the end of the show for 147,000 for those families who lost a loved one in this tragic incident. Please help and DONATE! We are taking anything from a dollar and up! I appreciate you for taking the time out to read this and I hope that I moved you in a way to get you aware of what’s going on in Kenya. Tell a friend to tell a friend that we are trying to help Kenya, Africa and most importantly the WORLD. Thank you! #TrinidadInKenya
