Amber Ray was raised in poverty, she gave birth to her son Gavin when she was just 18 and was forced to stay in a single room in Githurai 45 as she hustled.
The socialite struggled to make ends meet while living as a single mother in Githurai 45 after her baby daddy broke up with her.
She was forced to live in a single room and did all sorts of menial jobs just to put food on the table.
Some of the jobs Amber Ray did include; hawking matumbo (offal), cereals, and milk. She also worked as a waitress and head of customer care at e-Citizen.
“I used to leave Gavin (her son) at my friend’s place. I rush to Tao KMC then back to Kahawa West nazungusha matumbo.”
“I had to sell stock yote ya kila siku since I did not have a fridge. I remember the mathree people and the way they used to frustrate me juu ya harufu ya matumbo, yenyewe acheni Mungu aitwe Mungu,” Amber Ray said in a Q&A.
She added that;
“Nimeuza matumbo, cereals. Nimeuza maziwa, nimekua waitress and my last job nilikua head of customer care e-citizen… It’s just that we don’t look like what we have been through.”
“We work hard behind the curtains. There’s no easy way to succeed, ata kupata pesa poa from a man, you must have your money kwanza… You can’t let people feed you all the time coz they are humans and humans get tired without notice.”

In a recent interview with Obinna, Amber Ray said her first salary was Ksh13,000 while working as a waitress at a Nairobi casino.
“I come from a humble background, grew up with a lot of struggles. I would pass by some joints downtown after I get my salary. I no longer fancy chicken and chips,” Amber Ray said.
The mother of one stressed that she made more money from tips than she got as a salary because of her work ethic.
“I used to work extremely hard that I managed to save my salary and pay all my bills with the money I got from my customers for good services,” she said.
Amber Ray is now one of the richest celebrities in Kenya, she is still a single mother to her son Gavin. She currently stays in the leafy Hurlingham suburb.
