The incumbent Kilifi Governor, Amason Kingi had some words for the ODM leader, Raila Odinga during his visit to Kilifi County.
On Wednesday, March 3, the outspoken Governor took to the podium and addressed the ODM party leader Raila Odinga directly over his sentiments he had said earlier about politicians forming political parties.
Raila Odinga was present.
Raila Odinga who advised against the Coastal people from forming their own political party had stated that many political parties will threaten the unity of the nation.
Kilifi Governor, Amason Kingi wasn’t having any of this. Not one bit.
“When ANC and FORD Kenya come together to strengthen their backyard it’s good, when NARC and Wiper come together to strengthen their backyard is also good but when KADU Asili and other Coastal parties come together to consolidate our base we are now threatening the unity of the country. That’s doublespeak and double standards.” A furious Kingi told Raila.
Amason Kingi was keen to state the reasons why he believes Raila Odinga was wrong for asking the Coastal people not to form their own political party.
Kingi addressing wananchi at Ganze Primary School football ground to promote the proposed BBI Bill said that all parties that have been registered in the country so far are national parties but almost all of them have their strongholds in numerous regions across Kenya.
Reiterating that KADU Asili’s intentions is to do nothing extraneous but unite the Coastal region so that the region can speak with the same voice just like other political parties does in different regions in the country.
“Wiper is a national party but it has his stronghold in Ukambani, ANC is a national party but it’s stronghold is in Western, even KADU Asili is a national party but it’s stronghold is here at the Coast.” Kingi added.
Reportedly, Governor Amason Kingi who was elected to his gubernatorial seat through the ODM party ticket is in talks with other Coastal leaders to make KADU Asili a regional party that would inevitably help them get to the negotiating table when disbursements of resources and other major and key issues arises that needs the Coastal region’s attention.
Speaking on the proposed BBI Bill
The Kilifi governor isn’t trying to get left behind when it comes to making sure that Kilifi County reaps the rewards that come with the proposed BBI Bill.
Amason Jeffah Kingi is totally behind BBI.
Issuing a formal statement on social media after hosting the ODM party leader, Amason Kingi said:
“We are supporting constitutional reforms with the aim of taking more national resources to the grassroots, thereby cementing the gains of devolution and ensuring every Kenyan gets a share of the resources.
Taking to social media back on February 26, the Governor was quick to celebrate and thank all the 35 wards in Kilifi and the people of Kilifi for passing the proposed BBI bill
“Kilifi County has today passed the Building Bridges Amendment Bill after a rigorous public participation drive in all 35 wards.
I thank the People of Kilifi County for coming out in large numbers to participate in the public forums as a Constitutional requirement.
The goal of the Building Bridges Initiative is to resolve Kenya’s perennial problems of inequality by devolving more funds to grassroots for shared prosperity, address Kenya’s adversarial politics, unresolved historical injustices and a healed a polarized society.” the Kilifi Governor said.
