She was among the pioneer contemporary secular musicians in Kenya in the early 2000’s with ‘Bad boy’ collaboration with Nyashinski being one of her greatest successful hit song among many other collabos.
She had what many can describe as a fairly successful music career for almost a decade.
However after her years of success in the industry and with the changes experienced in the industry; she slowly went missing in action and by the time she re-emerged. Her fans were stunned when she revealed that she was born again and moving from secular to gospel music.
We all know her as Amani she now calls herself @amanigospel on Instagram and with her new song dubbed ‘Jina lake Yesu’ she has fired the first shot to prove that she meant it when she said she is now a born-again Christian and will no longer do secular music.
“The video is now on YouTube. Link is on the profile. May the name of the Lord be praised,” she wrote
Her followers shared their opinion by commenting on the post to support and praise her as they commended her for the song.
However, some of her fans did not take well her announcement to turn over a new leaf from what they have known her for to something new.
She becomes the latest musician to shift gears from secular to gospel following the footsteps of Size 8 and Wahu.
In the recent past, the gospel music industry has been on the receiving end where many think it’s only musicians who can’t handle the cutthroat competition in secular music who opt to move to where the competition is easy to handle.
However, those who support the move argue at a spiritual angle saying that no one can judge other people’s choice of giving their life to God and deciding to so by praising Him through songs.
The other day we shared a story of a writer by the name Stephen Siloma who wrote his disappointment because of what he called the secularization of the Kenyan gospel music and showbiz.
Comedian Jalang’o also a few weeks ago expressed the same view about lack of content in gospel music an opinion which saw Jalang’o get at loggerheads with some gospel artist.
Well, who are we to judge? All the best Amani!
