Alikiba expressed his frank opinion after Tanzania national football team Taifa Stars were hammered in their opening match in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament which is taking place in Ivory Coast.
Taifa Stars lost 3-0 to Morocco in their opening campaign.
Alikiba through his InstaStory seemed to blame the players for not being at their best but also for being careless on the field without knowing that they were representing the nation.
The Bongo singer lamented that some of the players in the Taifa Stars team were playing for themselves instead of being patriotic and fighting for the country.
“Kuchezea timu ya taifa ni tofauti kabisa na kucheza kwa ajili yako. Taifa Stars unatakiwa kucheza kwa ajili ya Tanzania, ila ndio matokeo ya mpira ila mechi ijayo tupambane kwa ajili ya Tanzania,” Alikiba said.
Taifa Stars were stunned at the hands of Morocco while they looked bad in every area on the pitch so much so that they could not finish their passes and in all 90 minutes they only had one shot which was not even on target.
Alikiba, however, congratulated the players for their efforts in preventing more goals from being conceded, saying that the Moroccan national team is unusual in Africa.
“Poleni kwa kazi kubwa mlioifanya kwa sababu Morocco sio timu ya kawaida Afrika,” he said.
It will be remembered that the Moroccan national team has improved greatly in recent days, especially after surprising many in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Morocco was the first national team from Africa to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup, and thus was given the chance to do even better in the 2024 Afcon championship in Ivory Coast.
Despite doing well in the world cup, Morocco has been doing poorly in the Afcon championship, being more than 47 years since the last time they won the title.
