Machakos governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua on Thursday 29th opened the Machakos Cancer Care and Research Centre, which is the first of its kind by a County Government in Kenya.
Alfred Mutua unveiled the 40 million Kenyan Shillings Cancer Care and Research Centre in Machakos exclusively funded by his County government together with his wife, the First Lady of Machakos, Lilian Ng’ang’a.
The cancer care and research Centre will see residents of Machakos County, registered in the Universal Health Care Program receive quality screening, diagnosis, counseling and chemotherapy treatment and management FREE OF CHARGE.
For residents from other counties, Alfred Mutua has not entire forgotten about them, he will offer them subsidized price with others from the SEKEB(South Eastern Kenya Economic Block) region receiving special rates.

“Others from the SEKEB region will receive special rates and all citizens from the entire country will pay a subsidized price – the cheapest in Kenya. CANCER TREATMENT FOR ALL, NOT JUST FOR THE RICH We want to ensure that cancer treatment is for all of us not just a few.” Dr. Alfred Mutua tweeted.
The center can and will undertake the highest quality of cancer diagnosis and provide chemotherapy treatment and advance surgery with a promise of purchasing a 300 million Kenya shillings radiotherapy machine next year to help make the Centre be one of the best cancer and research Centres in the region if not the entire country.
Alfred Mutua also intends to have the finest and the most qualified doctors working at the Cancer Care and Research Centre from the Machakos county and he is more than willing to partner up with hospitals and institutions of higher learning and research to come to that fruition.
“We plan to partner with hospitals and institutions of higher learning and research so that we can have experts working here from all over the world. We will also utilize TELEMEDICINE for consultations between our doctors and experts in the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and our African continent.” Dr. Alfred Mutua said on his speech on Thursday at the unveiling of the Machakos Cancer Care and Research Centre.
The Machakos governor has promised together with president Uhuru Kenyatta to make sure all Kenyans are provided access to free and quality healthcare.
