AKA’s mother insists that detectives probing son’s murder shouldn’t be rushed

Lynn Forbes, the mother of slain rapper AKA, said police should be allowed to investigate her son’s assassination at their own pace because rushing it would not bring him back.

AKA and his long-time friend and former manager Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane were gunned down outside a Durban champagne bar in February. No arrests have been made thus far.

Speaking during an interview with eNCA, AKA’s mother noted that she already lost her son and that even if the investigations are rushed she will not get him back.

“I’m allowing the investigation to run its course because nothing is going to be different in terms of this. I don’t want to rush them because I want – Kiernan is gone for me, and nothing that’s going to be rushed is going to bring him back. I’m still going to go to bed without my son, and I’m going to wake up without my son, and it doesn’t matter who gets arrested, that’s never going change,” she said.

Speaking about the investigation, AKA’s mother said the family is regularly updated and told what is happening.

The grieving mother said she did not know if her son had enemies, adding that she did not want to believe that he did.

“I don’t want to believe that somebody would have hated him that much or – I don’t know if it was hate, I don’t even know what it was, I don’t know,” she continued. “Even if someone disliked him, I don’t know if it would have been enough to actually plan, calculate and sit down and discuss, ‘Are we going to take him out like this’ because that, for me, is a very calculated act.”
