Alfonso Ribeiro recently opened up about his career struggles following his iconic role as Carlton Banks on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
In an interview with Closer Weekly, he expressed how being typecast has hindered his acting opportunities.
“It was one of the greatest roles that I ever was fortunate enough to play, but it was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn’t see me as anything else,” he stated.
When a fan suggested that Tyler Perry could help rejuvenate Ribeiro’s career, the actor made it clear that he wasn’t interested in Perry’s assistance.
Responding to the suggestion on social media, Ribeiro stated, “I don’t need or ever want that man to do anything for me.”
While Ribeiro didn’t delve into the specifics of his feelings towards Perry, his IMDb page indicates that he has worked on projects associated with Perry in the past, including directing credits on the sitcom Meet the Browns.
This history suggests that there may be underlying tensions between the two, although Ribeiro did not elaborate on the nature of their relationship.
