Filmmaker Abel Mutua spent a whopping Ksh7 million on all expenses while shooting the new movie ‘Click Click Bang’.
Mutua smiled all the way to the bank as his investment in the movie paid off, he made a Ksh2 million profit after the movie was screened at various cinemas across the country.
“From pre-production to marketing, we’ve used Ksh7 million. The returns are almost hitting Ksh9 million, so it was successful. We really appreciate because most film projects don’t give back the profit. Most people look for funding abroad,” Abel Mutua said.
Mutua lamented that there were not enough cinemas in the country, asking the government to help promote the film industry.
Nairobi only is where people go to theatres to watch movies, and that is not right. We need to rectify that,” he said.
“If there is a film centre in all the 47 counties, they will have pushed us a thousand steps ahead. They need to make sure the infrastructure is around the country. If the government could just work on that, we’d be set. And now if they ensured every county had its film centre, we’d be revolutionary,” he added.
Mutua, his business partner Phillip Karanja, and the PhilIt team won Best Viewers Choice Award (Feature Film) through Click Click Bang at the 12th Edition of the Kalasha International Film and TV awards 2022.
Kalasha awards 2022 was held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Safari Park Hotel.
Abel Mutua and his team from PhilIt Production dominated the night by taking home a total of 6 awards.
In general, Mutua won six Kalasha awards after being nominated in 12 different categories.
