Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi escaped death by a whisker when Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) stormed his rally and started hacking people with pangas in Kilifi.
The incident happened in October 2012 when Kingi was the Minister for Fisheries in Kibaki/Raila coalition government.
Kingi only survived the ordeal because his bodyguard shielded him with his body when an MRC member was trying to hack him with a panga.
Three civilians died on the spot while Kingi’s bodyguard succumbed to injuries sustained in the confrontation with the gang members who disrupted the meeting.
It has finally taken four years for the courts to deliver justice. A Mombasa court today sentenced to death one of the MRC members involved in the 2012 attack in Kilifi. 3 others MRC members were acquitted.
